Sea kayaks

Unlike river kayaks, sea kayaks are used for exploring open bodies of water like bays and the ocean. These tiny vessels are seaworthy and feature a covered deck. Sportsmen can also add a spray deck for navigating waves.

Whitewater canoes and kayaks may be easier to navigate because of their maneuverability, but sea kayaks have larger cargo capacity and are more comfortable. Also, in contrast to whitewater kayaks, sea kayaks are larger and can hold as many as three paddlers. In addition, because they are used for long journeys they have room for camping gear, food, and supplies.

Sea kayaks are made of fiberglass, polyethylene, or carbon kevlar. They can also include wood strips for a more traditional look. Modern kayaks can also include inflatable tubes.
